Padstones are required at the ends of steel beams to help spread the load onto a larger surface area that is made of a harder material such as pre-cast concrete. Padstone sizes and calculations to justify the size are required by by Building Control. We provide padstone calculations at your request with all single beam calculations by us at no cost.

If a padstone is not used, then the soft brick below the steel beam could compress and crack. In most cases this does not lead to a major failure, but unsightly cracks appearing in the finished plaster work.

Please call us or email us if you require padstone design and calculations.
